Winnie’s just told me not to tell anyone. Chinese superstition TIL 100% in the bag. So I’ve taken down this exciting post for now
Weds 30th January 2019
I can reinstate this post now because I have found my family.
I have a family. They are found. Just after I’d finished typing a quick Whats App message to Winnie about my HK ID, how I was waiting anxiously to hear about whether the Red Cross had been to my half sister’s last address, she simply wrote “Can I call you”. She called me and so much squealing and excitement and trying to take in the mistaken identities, name changes. I’ll fill you in more I promise, because right now I have to get to a meeting with a social worker from International social services.
But I have a big brother and two elder sisters, all still alive. I will get to meet at least one of them on Tuesday at the Red Cross HQ. Incidentally, the whole of the reception area is red, black and white for those who remember my posting on this.
But the most surprising news – I have a little half sister. My Mum went on to have another daughter by another father. And my elder sisters are still in touch with her.
I don’t even know how to begin to articulate what I’m feeling, but wanted to capture this moment. All my family, that precious small family in the UK, are still asleep. But I’ve spoken with Lucy. She points out to me a fact I’ve quite ignored. My half siblings will likely have children and grandchildren too. A found family, and who knows how many.
My biggest half sister has agreed to bring photographs of my Mother. On Tuesday, for the first time, I will see a picture of my birth Mother. I am speechless with delight. I am crying.
OMG this is simply amazing news. Sending love and hugs. Xxxxx

That is such wonderful news Laura, I’m totally thrilled and delighted for you. I told David and he too got emotional. We are so excited for you. Will you be able to sleep before Tuesday, I doubt it. Well done you, well done Winnie and all those who have helped you. This is, I’m sure, just the start of something wondrous. Axxx

“We are family
I got all my sisters with me
We are family
Get up ev’rybody and sing
We are family
I got all my sisters with me
We are family
Get up ev’rybody and sing
Living life is fun and we’ve just begun
To get our share of the world’s delights
(HIGH!) high hopes we have for the future
And our goal’s in sight
(WE!) no we don’t get depressed
‘Cause here’s what we call our golden rule
Have faith in you and the things you do
You won’t go wrong
This is our family Jewel”
